The Cage is a collective project that explores visual archives from different fields: the historical, the social, the artistic, the pedagogic and the documentary. We create experiences to question and reflect about the nature and function of visual archives and their importance in constructing autobiographical and collective memory as well as the obliteration through historical amnesia or institutional silences. We propose a collaboratively and experimental approach to the construction of a common and open archive that is used to interrogate current socio-political questions. The documentation and record of these experiences is an essential part of the process.
In every context, The Cage produces an experimental publication as well as interventions in the public space.
